Who really needs to be schooled cyclist or drivers?

In the commentary for Bikes and Cars coexisting, Matthew believes the younger generation should be taught in school how to drive cars next to bikes. Well I agree the younger generation needs to improve their driving habits; however I do not believe it is with cyclist. It is hard to expect drivers to respect cyclists when the cyclist themselves do not even respect a 4 wheeled motor vehicle, a fast moving vehicle that can do serious damage to them as well as their bike. I believe it is the cyclist need to learn how to ride around cars, they are constantly swerving in and out of lanes or causing a major traffic jam. Making drivers having to stop suddenly or drive 10 miles per hour in 25 to 30 mph zone to ensure they will not hit the cyclist since the consequences for the drivers are extreme.
Therefore I believe it is the cyclist who needs to be schooled on riding their bikes around cars. As for the younger generation and their driving they need to focus on the road and the other cars around them and not their texting.

Obama has bigger Challenges than immigration citzenship!

Big challenge for Obama: retain Hispanic support

According to one of Kvue’s political news articles, Obama’s current challenge is maintaining Hispanic support for the upcoming Democratic Party election in 2010 and then for his re-election in 2012. Obama plans to reconstruct the nation’s immigration system by pushing immigration legislature and making it possible for 12 million immigrants living in the U.S. now to obtain citizenship.

This is nice thought for those immigrants but what is President Obama going to do for his people that are citizens already. Can the economy really afford to grant citizenship to 12 million illegal immigrants? The job market is already limited, adding more people will not help this issue; this will only make it worse. According to a research done by The Use of SSI and Other Welfare Programs by Immigrants, 29% of non-citizens immigrants use welfare, where will the government find the money to support the million more immigrants they want to add because this number will only increase after those millions are granted citizenship.

The problem with President Obama is his promises made during his campaign were not good for the economy that was already in trouble; instead his promises were made to benefit the minorities who live on welfare. Majority of minorities who support Obama believe they have earned a life of freedom because of the suffering their ancestor endured. However what these minorities fail to see is their ancestors were hard workers regardless of what they went through. The minorities supporting Obama would rather take a free ride instead of educating themselves and helping the economy by getting off welfare.

President Obama has bigger challenges that take priority over making immigrants citizens. He needs to focus more on the job market and work on decreasing the need for welfare by making welfare less enticing. Once President Obama has the economy in control then he can reevaluate the immigration issue, maybe then it will benefit the economy to take on more people but as for now the economy needs deal with its people of natural citizenship right now.

Abortion is a Political Issue!

Abortion is a strong subject to talk about; however, it is one that needs to be talked about. Should abortion be in politics? Randy thinks this issue should get out of Capitol.
I think abortions should stay in politics because it needs some kind of containment. Abortion is like drugs if we do not have laws against them then they would take over the world. Think of all those children that are killed without a chance to become someone in the world. Even if politicians have never experienced this type of decision, they understand the importance of containment for this issue. If it was up to me I would ban abortion all together but over the years I understand there are some circumstances in which we could consider abortion being allowed. That is where the politics come by making the laws for when it is okay to have an abortion and only in those excruciating circumstances. The government could provide more money to adoption agencies, so that this could be another option for abortion, and so many people pay thousands of dollars for surrogate mothers when there are babies dying every day, why not have those couples pay for these babies not to die instead.

Texas using stimulus money to good use!

EMPLOYMENT

In tough market, training opens doors - and there's money for it
By Claudia Grisales

AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF

After hours of searching for news worthy stories I stumbled across a news article that described how Texas was using stimulus funds to reeducate its laid off workforce in order to help people revamp their skills while at the same time giving the state a fighting chance during these tough economic times. So I continued to read more with the intention of lifting my state pride and with the hope that some of what I learned would help ya’ll out there. Our state received 51 million to help laid off workers upgrade their skills through education and certification. The money was made available through the Federal Workforce Investment Act. What does it provide? Grants administered by Workforce Solutions for laid-off workers with a maximum entitlement of $7,000 to train for new careers. Training ranging from continuing education classes to associate degrees for a maximum of two years. Local work force boards determine eligibility, if applicants are accepted; an account in the applicants name is setup so that the training provider can access money to cover costs such as tuition and books. Programs such as this have helped to keep Texas’ unemployment below the national average. Currently the national average is approximately 10 percent while Texas’ enjoys about a 2 percent lower rate. Great leadership along with a Texan’s never say die attitude will continue to help our great state triumph and prosper.

Who is the recession really over for?

Texans won't escape recession
Updated: 10/26/2009 12:02 PM
By: Harvey Kronberg

Kronberg comments on the recession in Texas how it is headed to positive territory meanwhile Texas unemployment is still rather high.
Yes the government is claiming better economy for 2010, which shows President Obama, came through with some of his promises however unemployment rate is still high. Texas unemployment rate is at 8.2 as of September 2009. Families are still suffering from unemployment because they cannot receive extensions for their unemployment because our state has to be 10 percent or higher for anyone to be considered for extensions on unemployment. President Obama got his government in control and failed to help his people. We the people need jobs to secure an income not another loan or credit card to bring us more in debt and how can we invest money we do not have, so who did Obama really help? It is great to know our economy is not going to crumble however my heart goes out to the families who do not have a secure income, who not sure where their food is coming from if any and to those who are losing their homes to foreclosures. Where is the help for these families? Where are the jobs promised to these people?

The Zilker Tree returns for its 43rd year as an “Austin icon”
By Joshunda Sanders | Tuesday, November 3, 2009, 11:15 AM

Long Lasting Tradition "Zilker Christmas Tree"

The Zillker Christmas Tree is “a rite of passage for any kid who grows up in Austin.” I am delighted the Zilker Tree will be back again for its 43rd year. I remember spinning under it as a little girl myself and now a family tradition with my daughter and husband. It is just one of the many enjoyments of Austin, TX such as canoe on Town Lake, train ride at Zilker, Congress bats. Christmas is a wonderful time to spend with family and there is no better way than to grab a bag of kettle popcorn and spin under this 152 ft tree. New families to Austin should definitely put the Zilker Tree on their list of family traditions to begin and existing families if not a tradition already it should become one this year. Spinning under this tree brings the kid out in everyone The Zilker Christmas Tree is a pleasurable “Austin icon” which I hope sticks around until the end of time.

Really..Really..Our Public Schools could use that money!

Texas' School Fund might invest in charter school facilities

The State board of education wants to invest money in to charter schools with hopes of a return. This is absolutely absurd for them to even consider investing in any charter schools, simply because they have “x” amount of public schools that could sure use some investment in them. So many of our public school could use computer labs, after school programs and more specialized training for teachers so they can teach the kids appropriately. Then we would not have so many low performing schools. The state board is expecting to get a return from this investment, when actuality charter schools do not make profit the money that is made goes to repair classrooms in their building. The State Board just needs to stick to helping educate those who want to be educated in our public school systems.
